Delay can become "Delilah"
If you don’t start acting right
Everyone wants to get promoted at work, right? Everyone wants a big raise that can finally stop competing with their bills.
That’s the singular purpose of today’s newsletter.
Recently, I started asking the people who had recently been promoted at work to cut soap for me.
They were all forming humility here and there but I found some observations in common with almost all of them and I’ll be sharing it with you.
It’s Ownership.
What do I mean?
They fight the subtle, subconscious urge to cede responsibility and ownership of tasks to superiors all the time.
Many employees continue to make the mistake of believing that you need to become the boss to start thinking and acting like one.
You’ll see something clearly going wrong with a task that's within your power to address, but rather than do so, you either completely ignore it or take the problem to your superiors.
Because you believe (often subconsciously) that the job of providing solutions is tied to certain senior roles. That when you probably get to those roles, you too will start taking initiative/ownership of tasks and providing solutions to problems.
You get so used to acting only on your boss' instructions that you gradually lose the ability to take initiative.
And this makes you develop the mentality that bosses are responsible for fixing things, giving go-aheads, not you. And that your only job at your level is to implement the solutions proposed by the bosses.
Newsflash, the only way to get to those top-level positions is by showing that you can take care of business in your current role/capacity.
Those ogas with the power to promote you need to see themselves in you. They need to know that you can think and act like them in crucial situations. That's the only way they'll trust you with more power.
Everyone wants to bet on the sure thing. So, if you want to become a boss, you have to show to your superiors that you're the best possible bet for the role you seek through your actions now.
If you want to wait till you become a boss to start acting like one, you probably will never become one.
Bottom line: Don't let delay not become Delilah o🤲🏽
I hope I’ve been able to impart you with some wisdom today.

“I THINK I’M ABOUT TO GET FIRED”
Okay, I’m normally tagged as an overthinker but lately at the office, I’ve had reasons to believe that they are planning to sack me. I admit i’ve been struggling a bit since i started working here as an intern. I was also told that if I wasn’t able to adjust in a matter of months, I could be laid off. Lately, they’ve stopped giving me work, stopped complaining about the rubbish i’ve been turning in and everyone’s just generally been quiet.
Am I just being paranoid?
Bola, 26
MY ADVICE
Hmmm. so 2 things… It may be paranoia, and it may also be valid. I' remember having a feeling like that a while back and it happened that they were letting me me go because of funding. My advice? Maybe buckle up at the job, show willingness to learn, and try to do better by maybe taking some learnings online. You can also start looking at other jobs and applying by the side. This way, if things go south, nothing’s really lost.
