“You don't need money now. Focus on your growth.”
If I count the number of times I've heard this phrase. I would have bought Belgium by now.
Why is it the employers that pay the least that talk a lot about not working for money? You would almost think its a crime to be paid well.
Because, let’s even be honest, why else are we waking up at 5 AM, surviving traffic, and answering emails at odd hours? Passion is great, but we have real-life Bukata, and biscuits won’t solve them.
Many companies still operate on this belief that true commitment means financial self-sacrifice. That “doing it for the love” should be enough.
Just because we love what we do doesn’t mean we should be underpaid, underappreciated, or guilt-tripped for wanting more.
Would a company hesitate to increase their prices to clients when they are running at a loss? No. Why should you then feel bad for negotiating higher pay?
The next time management raises an eyebrow at your financial aspirations, remind them:
• You’re not a gold digger; you deserve to be paid fairly.
• You’re not doing charity; money is needed for survival.
Because if you’re going to spend 40+ hours a week in the office, it better be worth it.
