Today’s gist
I’m happy to be back here writing to you. I had a long break and my December Obleeeed.
It particularly obleed because I hung out with a colleague. Bery weird, I know😩
But she’s one of those people that just become your friends at work. You sort of meet people who are just too good to be merely colleagues. Right?
The twist about this colleague is how babe is an enemy of my close friend. Few months back, when my friend came to the company, this babe was her line manager and she saw some amount of hell in her hands.
This eventually led her to resign. I guess she has many traits, but leadership isn’t.
But it got me thinking about how important it is to actively avoid inheriting other people's enemies at work.
All this, “my friend’s enemy is my enemy” thing may not help you at work o.
Humans are complex beings who can be different things to different people under different circumstances.
The same person that's considered horrible by one colleague is usually seen by another as the nicest person ever and both contrasting perceptions would often be accurate.
So, distancing yourself from some colleagues solely because of your work friends' negative perception of them is unwise and could put you at risk of alienating potentially valuable allies or helpers of your destiny.
The enemy of your friend is not your enemy, it is not an inheritance.
