My friend told me recently that his company told all of them to start going home one random day because they couldn’t afford to pay salaries again.
Just like that.
Turns out it was a creative agency that had been depending on one big client. And once they lost that one client, that was it. No money. No backup plan. No jobs.
They were all sent packing. No warning. No gradual signs. One day they had a job; the next day poof. Carpet gone. Feet in the air.
It got me thinking.
This thing we keep calling “family” in the workplace... most times, it’s just a sweet word for “keep giving us your best without questioning anything.”
Let’s be real: If the company’s money source dries up today, we will all go home.
Simple.
So all that “I will die here with my company”? Sacrificing your mental health, your friendships, your peace. Snap out of it.
Your boss is very nice to you because you’re helping the business grow. The moment you become a cost instead of a profit, things change.
So take your work seriously, yes. Do a good job, of course. But take your life seriously too. Say no when you need to. Take your leave days. Look out for better opportunities. Don’t stay stuck in a place because of “sentiment.”
At the end of the day, it’s a job. Please don’t forget that.
